Night of the Tigers

Tiger Rattlesnake
Crotalus trigris

Date: Aug 18
Time: 8:39 PM
Location: 29.2 miles E of Douglas, Cochise County, AZ
Site: A muddy road beside a rocky hillside
Weather: Skies mostly cloudy and calm - a warm rain shower had just ended
Temperature: 80 F
Humidity: 98%
Notes: As night fell we had a pleasant surprise. Within less than five hundred feet, we came across two Tiger Rattlers crossing the slippery road. Field guides state that they become active in the desert right after summer rains. One specimen was held for videoing in daylight the next morning on the hill where it came from. Afterwards it was released.
