Leapin' Lizard

Texas Spiny Lizard
Sceloporus olivaceus

Date: Oct 01
Time: 11:47 AM
Location: 12.0 miles SE of Barhart on Co Rd 09, Crockett County, TX
Site: Basking on a rock in a stony field with scattered Mesquite trees
Weather: Skies clear with the wind from the SSE at 10 mph
Temperature: 75 F
Notes: This female was first spotted while she was perched on a rock where she was basking and keeping a watchful eye on her surroundings. When approached, she darted to a nearby small Mesquite. When Doug tried to capture her she leapt from the tree to his face and scurried to the top of his head. When Chad tried to get her she jumped to his arm and ran up onto his sleeve. Even though we never caught her, we sure had some fun moments together.
