Doug Gets Slimed

Wuerch's Wildlife

Date: March 31
Time: 9:52 PM
Location: 37.2 miles north of Old 80 on Agua Caliente Road, Maricopa County, AZ
Site: On rocky, sandy soil with Creosote Bush and a few scattered Saguaro cactus
Weather: Skies clear with the wind from the SW at less than 5 mph
Temperature: 85 F
Notes: Even though these are the largest scorpions found in the United States, their sting is typically not much worse than that of the average honey bee's. Their bristle-like hairs help them detect ground vibra-tions and the movement of other animals nearby. This aids them in finding prey or avoiding predators in the dark when they are active.
