Baby Blue
Most frequently found on the ground in sandy, wooded areas with leaf litter, the Five-Line Skink is a medium size lizard of the eastern half of the United States. Covered with tiny, smooth scales, these sleek reptiles have small limbs and elongated bodies with five stripes. Their tails are longer than their bodies and are bright blue when they hatch. Since the tails of these lizards break off easily, a predator that goes after the more colorful part of the skink will often end up with a wriggling tail only. In the mean time the skink will escape with its life and can grow another tail. As they grow older they darken in color and become more elusive.
