Wuerch's Wildlife

Bobcats are medium-sized wildcats - about twice the size of a domestic cat. They were once found across the entire United States and into southern Canada and northern Mexico. Due to the fur trade, their populations were lost in parts of the Midwest and the eastern states. Recent efforts protecting them has their numbers rebounding in these areas. They get their names from their short, black-tipped tails. The spotted or lined black or dark brown markings on their beige or grayish coats helps them blend into their surroundings. They primarily feed on rabbits and hares, but also include insects, small rodents, and deer in their natural diets.
